Description of center’s mission and objectives

We support you in conceptual planning and assessment of the best suitable and sustainable energy supply solution for you factory site. We develop concepts for sustainable energy supply (e. g. PV, wind, biogas) including potential storage systems. Based on simulations including load profiles of your site we dimension these concepts and evaluate their costs and environmental impact. In a roadmap we provide a reliable information basis for (short -, medium -, long term) planning variants for investment decisions. Service 1: We support you in planning and setting up energy monitoring systems. We develop customised measurement concepts and provide an overview of suitable hardware and software solutions. Finally we connect production and energy data in order to identify main energy consumers and measures to optimize your production regarding energy efficiency. Service 2: We develop concepts for sustainable energy supply (e. g. PV, wind, biogas) including potential storage systems. Based on simulations including load profiles of your site we dimension these concepts and evaluate their costs and environmental impact. We support in selecting the most suitable solution and planning its implementation. Service 3: We support you in converting your energy supply to sustainable energies. Together we develop a roadmap to provide reliable information basis for (short -, medium -, long term) planning variants for investment decisions.

Description of center’s facilities and equipment

Fraunhofer IGCV has been researching the design of sustainable production systems and lightweight components for 15 years. We evaluate the environmental impacts of products and processes in numerous publicly funded projects as well as through direct industry assignments. We have a wide range of production facilities in our demonstration area and have developed and implemented our own energy management and monitoring system.

We have access to commercial simulation software TOP-Energy. We combine this with internal data (costs, environmental impact) on typical technologies in the field of sustainable energy supply based on previous research projects. We have access to the LCA for Experts (GaBi) software and the Sphera Professional database (incl. additional databases). Additionally, we have the ability to use our own LCA-databases developed for the composites industry and the additive manufacturing of metals. If you have no knowledge about your energy and material streams or need of a detailed analysis, we can utilize our own measuring equipment to determine electricity consumptions, gas consumptions, compressed air and more. Furthermore, to efficiently analyze the collected measurement data, we have created our own tool, DATo, which allows for a semi-automated analysis.
