Description of center’s mission and objectives

INTEMAC is a Czech-based, non-profit Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) and a subsidiary of the South Moravian Innovation Centre (JIC). Its core mission is to advance applied research, education, and advisory services with a strong focus on industrial AI for smart, flexible, and sustainable manufacturing. In alignment with the South Moravian Region’s innovation strategy, INTEMAC actively supports industrial enterprises in their pursuit of global excellence by deepening their understanding of modern technologies, improving operational efficiency and productivity, and strengthening overall competitiveness. As the coordinator of the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) for the digital transformation of manufacturing, INTEMAC offers a comprehensive portfolio of services, including expert consulting, practical training, awareness events, and extensive research and development activities in applied industrial AI. The center combines industry-leading expertise with unique infrastructure, providing access to a modern testbed for rapid prototyping, technology validation, and advanced research. With a proven track record in EU-funded projects and successful industrial collaborations, INTEMAC helps companies quickly adapt their production processes to changing market needs while supporting their long-term sustainable development.

Description of center’s facilities and equipment

A central element of INTEMAC’s offering is its 300 m² modern Testbed for smart manufacturing, designed to support proof-of-concept development, hands-on training, and extensive research activities. The Testbed provides companies with a low-risk environment to explore new technologies and develop innovative solutions for smart, flexible, and sustainable manufacturing. INTEMAC also houses specialized laboratories, including the IPMAI (Interpretable Prescriptive Maintenance using Artificial Intelligence) laboratory for interpretable prescriptive maintenance, which uses explainable AI to detect wear in industrial gearboxes, optimize operations, and provide user-friendly AI-generated maintenance guidance. The modular machine vision laboratory supports research in visual inspection and quality control, employing both rule-based and AI-driven approaches, and enabling testing and validation of synthetic data across multiple manufacturing sectors.

The center’s facilities include a range of industrial and collaborative robots from ABB, Universal Robots, and AUBO, equipped with modular end-effectors such as Robotiq and SCHUNK, enabling flexible automation scenarios and effective human–machine collaboration. High-precision manufacturing capabilities are supported by SLV EDU CNC Milling Machines and Vertical Machining Centres. Real-time tracking and process optimization are provided through a UWB-based Real-Time Location System (RTLS) from Sewio, allowing accurate indoor monitoring of assets, equipment, and personnel. The Testbed is further supported by high-performance desktop computers with NVIDIA GPUs, facilitating neural network training, AI development, and physics-based simulations. In addition, through collaboration with over 50 industrial and technology partners, the infrastructure can be expanded or adapted as needed for specific projects. This combination of advanced technologies, specialized laboratories, and flexible infrastructure enables INTEMAC to support SMEs and industrial enterprises in testing, prototyping, and developing innovative manufacturing solutions.
