Challenge

MDG International continuously monitors opportunities to finance innovation, digitalisation, and further business development through European Union funding programmes.
However, the process of identifying relevant funding calls was complex, time-consuming, and required searching across numerous portals and databases. An additional challenge was assessing the eligibility criteria and determining the alignment of individual calls with the company’s needs and strategic development objectives, which required significant internal resources. As a result, there was a risk that valuable funding opportunities could be overlooked. The company therefore required a more efficient solution to simplify the identification of relevant funding calls, accelerate the decision-making process, and enable a stronger focus on opportunities that best support its long-term strategic goals.

Solution & Result

As part of the Danube DNA pilot activities, MDG International tested the AI-Powered Funding Call Matcher,
a digital tool developed to improve the identification and matching of relevant EU funding opportunities. With expert support from SERDA, the company gained practical knowledge on how to use the tool and apply it to identify funding opportunities aligned with its business needs, development objectives, and investment priorities.
By using the B2GreenHub platform, the process of searching for and selecting relevant funding calls became faster, simpler, and more efficient, significantly reducing the time required to identify potential funding sources. During the pilot, the company identified a greater number of relevant EU funding opportunities, improved its awareness of available funding programmes, and further strengthened its internal capacity for planning and preparing future development and innovation projects. The pilot demonstrated that the application of AI technology can significantly enhance the process of identifying funding opportunities while contributing to more effective strategic planning and supporting the long-term growth and competitiveness of SMEs.

Learning tips & recommendations

Companies facing similar challenges are encouraged to clearly define their development objectives, investment priorities, and innovation needs before searching for funding opportunities. The use of AI-powered digital tools can significantly accelerate the identification of relevant funding calls and facilitate the selection of opportunities that best match business needs. At the same time, continuously monitoring available funding programmes, regularly refining project ideas, and collaborating with business support organisations such as SERDA can contribute to the preparation of higher-quality project proposals and more effective use of available funding opportunities. The experience gained through the pilot demonstrated that combining AI-based solutions with expert support enables more efficient planning of development activities and enhances companies' readiness to participate successfully in future EU-funded projects.
