Bulgaria

Region:

Sofia

Challenge

EDE16 faced a practical production challenge typical for SMEs working with spot-welding equipment: important production and energy-related data was either monitored manually or not measured in a structured way at all. This limited real-time visibility of production output, machine activity and electricity consumption, making it difficult to analyse productivity, detect inefficiencies and support decision-making with reliable operational data. In this context, EDE16 provided the real industrial environment and use case around which WeldWise was jointly developed and technically shaped.

Solution & Result

Within Danube DNA, WeldWise was jointly developed around the practical needs identified in EDE16’s spot-welding production environment. ICT Cluster Bulgaria acted as responsible project partner, while COMICON Ltd. carried out the technical development and system integration. At EDE16, the solution was tested and validated in real operating conditions, focusing on real-time production counting, machine-level energy monitoring, energy consumption per produced unit, operator productivity visualisation and abnormal operation detection. This development and validation process confirmed the practical value of the solution and showed that a lightweight, non-invasive Industrial IoT architecture can significantly improve production transparency, reduce dependence on manual reporting and provide a much stronger basis for operational analysis and future optimisation. The company reported improved production transparency and increased operator productivity after using the system.

Learning Tips & Recommendations

When developing a digital monitoring solution together with an SME, it is important to begin with a clearly identified operational problem rather than with technology alone. The EDE16 case showed that the strongest results come when the development process is anchored in a real production environment, with clear agreement on which data matters most for operators and management. Another important lesson is that non-invasive installation and simple visualisation greatly increase acceptance on the shop floor. The value of the solution comes not only from measuring electricity, but from connecting production events, machine activity and energy use into one clear operational picture.
