Challenge

The company VÚMZ SK carries out projects in the field of automation and the production of technological equipment. The digital maturity analysis showed that despite a strong IT background and the integration of ERP, PLM, and design systems, there are significant reserves in the field of digitalizing production processes. In many cases, automated collection of production data, machine monitoring, and analytical tools for evaluating production performance were missing. Operational processes in production, logistics, and quality control were often managed manually or using paper documentation, which limited the transparency of processes and the possibilities for optimizing production capacities.

Solution & Result

As part of the pilot project, an analysis of processes and a proposal for a production digitalization solution using Industry 4.0 principles were carried out. SOVA Digital, together with VÚMZ SK, identified key areas with the greatest potential for improvement – particularly the collection of production data, equipment monitoring, visualization of production indicators, and analytical evaluation of production performance.

The proposed solution included the concept of implementing a system for automated collection of production data (MIS/MES), future integration with the existing ERP system IS CITO, and the creation of an analytical environment for evaluating production indicators. The pilot also included the identification of data sources, definition of KPIs, and the design of a digital production management model.

The result of the pilot is a clear roadmap for the digitalization of production processes, identification of specific digitalization projects, and the creation of a foundation for implementing data-driven decision-making in production.

Learning Tips & Recommendations

The digitization of production should always begin with a detailed analysis of processes and the identification of areas with the greatest potential for improvement. It is important to proceed gradually – from pilot projects to broader solution implementation.
A key success factor is the integration of new digital tools with the company’s existing systems (ERP, PLM, CAD/CAM). Equally important is the involvement of employees and their training, so that new solutions support daily work and increase process efficiency.
It is also recommended to create a data strategy and define the main production KPIs, which will serve as a basis for analytics and continuous improvement.
